Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan arrived in Italy on Wednesday for an official visit following his stop in Germany, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and addressing regional and international issues, with the situation in Gaza topping the agenda.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), bin Farhan is scheduled to meet Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. The talks will focus on “Saudi-Italian relations and ways to enhance them in various fields to serve the interests of both friendly countries, in addition to discussing major regional and international issues of common concern.”
Earlier the same day, the Saudi foreign minister held talks in Berlin with his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, where they reviewed bilateral relations, explored ways of enhancing cooperation, and exchanged views on key regional developments, particularly the crisis in Gaza.
Saudi Arabia is leading international efforts to advance the two-state solution, co-chairing with France the upcoming international conference on its implementation, which will be hosted in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in September.
These diplomatic moves come amid the ongoing genocide carried out by Israel with U.S. backing against Gaza’s population since October 7, 2023, which, as of Wednesday, has claimed the lives of 62,895 Palestinians, injured 158,927 — the majority women and children — left more than 9,000 missing, and caused famine that has killed 313 people, including 119 children.
